Frans Van Leemputten taught at the Higher Institute of  Art in Antwerp. He was a pupil of the Brussels Academy. He lived in Antwerp for a long time. He made his debut in 1875.

He depicted scenes from the Campine life in an honest and faithful way. Van Leemputten was a conscious painter. He liked refined and rich colors, clear and pure and thorough observation prevailed in all his works.

He was a cofounder of ‘La Chrysalide’ in Brussels. He mainly worked in the Campine region and in Flemish Brabant.
