Painter of historical and military subjects, genre scenes, hunting scenes, horse-racing scenes and landscapes; watercolourist, engraver and draughtsman.

Son and pupil of Jacques Swebach, Bernard Edouard Swebach is also known as ‘Fontaine’. He enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts on February 28, 1814. He lived in Russia from 1818 till 1820. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1822 till 1838. His subject matter was essentially the same as his father’s, namely horses, hunting and scenes of military life.

The Los Angeles County Museum of French Art conserves his Military Scene (1821).
