John Varley was born in the first half of the 19th Century. He exhibited in London from 1870 till 1895, notably at the Royal Academy, the Suffolk Street Gallery, the New Society and the Grosvenor Gallery. He specialised in Egyptian scenes, executed in warm and bright colours.
