Painter of genre scenes, landscapes and animals; watercolourist, lithographer, caricaturist and excellent draughtsman.

Manuel Luque, born in 1854 in Almeria, left for Madrid at a very early age, where he illustrated several periodicals, like “El dia de moda”, and published albums, like “Perfiles”.

He made various humorous frescos and cartoons for the Cafe de Fornos, The Iberia and all kinds of private mansions. In Paris in 1874 and 1881, he produced caricatures for “Charivari” and “Monde parisien” (“Parisian World”).

He published the “Année comique” (“Comic Year”) and also made caricatures of well-known members of the Madrilenian high society, who were very much appreciated by their direct objects.
