Painter of genre scenes, animated landscapes and seascapes; painter of pastels and engraver.

Fernand Legout-Gérard exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris from 1889 till 1894 , and, from 1894 onwards, at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.

He was an official painter to the Navy Ministry and was made an Officier of the Légion d’Honneur.

He was well-known in artistic circles outside France and painted many scenes of Breton fishing and peasant life.
