Max Krusemark was a pupil of the Berlin Academy. From 1879 till 1881 he visited Italy, where he exhibited in Rome at the Palazzo Caffarelli in April 1881 and in Olevano in August of that same year. In 1883 and 1884 he showed his work in München-Gladbach and in 1886 in Düsseldorf. He settled down in Breslau and was made president of the Society of Artists of the Province of Schlesien. He worked in Berlin and Breslau.

Krusemark was a very well known painter of portraits. He painted the portrait of Prince Heinrich of Prussia and a portrait for the White House in Washington D.C..
