Painter of portraits and animals.

Eugène Maes was a pupil at the Brussels Academy. At the age of 19 he was awarded an honourable mention for his lively drawing.

At first Maes worked for different art dealers. Several of his paintings were executed in collaboration with David Col and Jan Portielje.

He painted a great number of works, most of which are in America.
