VAN DEN BRUEL Willem

THE PAINTER’S STUDIO

Oil on canvas: 97 x 79 cm / 38.2 x 31.1 in

Painter of landscapes, seascapes, interiors, figures and genre scenes.

Willem Van den Bruel was a pupil of Jean-François Portaels at the Academy of Fine Arts of his birth-place. He became a teacher at the same establishment in 1899.

Willem Van den Bruel’s art is the result of accurate observation of the very great talent to choose a subject or a site and then set it off to advantage, and finally of that imborn gift, that admirable faculty of vision without which labour would be in vain and would only produce a predominance in the craft but not superiority in the art.
