Honoré Louis Umbricht was a student of Léon Bonnat and made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1884, winning a third-class medal and another third-class in 1898. He was a member of the Artistes Français from 1894 on. He got an honourable mention at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and a bronze medal at the same exhibition in 1900.
Noteworthty among his portraits are those of Pope Benedict XV, Albert Sorel and the aviator Hélène Boucher.
