Painter of genre scenes and murals; sculptor and medaillist.

Louis Marie Joseph Ridel studied under Elie Delaunay, Gustave Moreau and Alfred de Richemont. In 1901 he became a member of the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, where he also exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries. His works apppeared in exhibitions in Berlin, Ghent, Cairo, Venice, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Saint-Louis and Pittsburgh as well. He received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1896, a third-class medal in 1898, a second-class medal in 1900 and he became a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1909.

He received several official commissions for wall panels.
