Théodore Gérard was a pupil of the Ghent Academy. He settled down in Brussels in 1863. He travelled to Germany and Austria-Hungary and was awarded medals at the Salon of Philadelphia in 1870, of London in 1871, of Vienna in 1873 and of Brussels in 1875. He was a professor at the Brusssels Academy of Fine Arts.
