Painter  of town views, genre scenes and landscapes; draughtsman, etcher and lithographer.

Siebe Johannes Ten Cate showed a predilection for lanscapes and town views. He is also the author of drawings, etchings and lithographies. He studied at the Academy of Amsterdam and was a pupil of J.M. Schmidt Crans.

He travelled through Europe (Antwerp and Paris), North America and Egypt even though he mostly worked in Paris.

He taught D.H.Th. Römer.
