Painter of animals; painter of gouaches and watercolourist.
Georges Rötig studied under Benjamin-Constant, Jules Lefebvre and Jean-Paul Laurens at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He painted animals in their daily pursuits.
He exhibited hors concours at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he was an associate member. He was awarded medals in 1902 and 1904 and won the Prix Rosa Bonheur in 1913.
This particular painting was exhibited out of competition at the 1911 Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, which took place in the Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées (cat. No. 2872).
