Carl Wilhelm Anton Seiler studied at the Academy in Berlin and then under Raupp in Munich. He served as a reserve officer in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and, after the war, settled in Munich. He became a member of the Berlin Academy in 1895.

Seiler exhibited his work in various venues, including Paris, where he secured an honourable mention in 1903.
