RANDALL Maurice

A UNION-CASTLE LINER AT ZANZIBAR

Oil on canvas: 102 x 152.5 cm / 40.1 x 60 ins
Signed lower left

Painter of seascapes and town views.

The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich has two large portraits of Union Castle Line ships, “The Arundel Castle”, launched in 1921, and “The Caernarvon Castle”, launched in 1926, which appear to have been painted in the 1920s.

The Union Castle Line had paintings by him in their office in Cape Town, South Africa, and all of his paintings have South African backgrounds, so it would appear that Maurice Randall was a South African artist working and living in Cape Town.
