Georges Croegaert was a pupil at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts. In 1876 he settled down in Paris, where he was influenced by the Belgian painter Jan Van Beers. He exhibited with success at the Paris Salons of 1882, 1883, 1888 and 1914 and in Vienna. He also participated at the Salon des Artistes Français. His small landscapes and scenes with elegant women in salons are painted in iridescent colours.
His paintings are treated as miniatures and are veritable masterpieces due to the cleanliness of his drawing and his gift as a colourist. He is collected and renowned worldwide
