Painter of genre scenes and interiors.
Gerke Henkes was a pupil of Jacob Spoel and, later on, of the Antwerp Academy. After a stay in Germany and France (Paris) he worked alternatively in Voorburg and in The Hague. In 1919 he left Voorburg and moved to Rotterdam.
Henkes taught Adriana Maria Hendrika Bleuland van Oordt and gave advice to Antonie Lodewijk Koster.
