AT THE BEACH

Painter of genre scenes and decorations; draughtsman and engraver.

Emile Berchmans Sr was above all a painter of vast, decorative works. He stimulated and co-ordinated the efforts of his colleagues. Many younger painters of the next generation, like his own son, were eager to pass through his atelier and he really created a tradition: p.e. in the work of Auguste Donnay we can easily recognize the Berchmans period.

This painting has been exhibited at the exhibition “Kunstenaarsdorpen in Europa” at the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands (December 10, 2022 till October 4, 2023).
