Elisabeth Sonrel was a student of Jules Lefebvre. She exhibited in Liverpool and also at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. She was awarded a commendation in 1893, a third-class medal in 1895 and a bronze medal in 1900 at the Exposition Universelle. She also won the Henri Lehmann Prize, awarded by the Institut de France.
Elisabeth Sonrel’s genre scenes are highly representative of fin de siècle academicism.
