Pierre-Paul Emmanuel de Pommayrac was born in Puerto Rico as the son of French parents. He studied under Gros and Madame de Mirabel. He was awarded a bronze medal in 1835, a silver medal in 1836 and 1848 and a gold medal in 1842. He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1852. He exhibited portraits and other subjects at the Paris Salon from 1835 to 1880.
