Painter of landscapes and genre scenes; poet.

DaiJian – or Shipin as he called himself – was born in ShanDong, JiNing, during the Qing Dynasty.

From an early age, Daijian’s intelligence and talent were obvious. He was interested in poetry and painting. The beautiful scenery he observed on his many travels, greatly influenced his art and poetry. His landscapes are as remarkable as those painted by DongQichang and WangJian. In 1836 he painted “Guanquan” and in the following year he created “Qianfengshicui” in the manner of Wangdong.

Daijian became famous through his paintings and his anthology of poetry 墨林今话、桐阴论画、清画家诗史》.
