Painter of genre scenes, landscapes and flowers.

Ernest Welvaert was a pupil of the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under the direction of Isidore Opsomer.

He was influenced by Théodore Verstraete and Emile Claus.

His realism thus turned to a generous luminism to describe the nature and the children of his region.

He mainly painted landscapes in Brabant.
