Marguerite Jeanne Carpentier was a pupil of the School of Fine Arts in Paris and the Julian Academy, where her teacher Jean-Paul Laurens introduced her to Rodin. In 1912 she lived for some time in the Villa Medicis in Rome. In 1915 she set up her workshop in Auteuil and in 1918 became the center of a group of young female disciples who created the first ‘School of Women’, with a woman as principal. From 1930 until her death in 1966 she kept a diary.
