Painter of historical subjects, genre scenes and portraits; painter of pastels and draughtsman.

Jules Saintin was a pupil at the Paris School of Fine Arts (1845) and studied in the studios of Michel Drolling and François Edouard Picot. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1848 onwards, then at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he was awarded medals for his work in 1866, 1870 and 1886. Saintin was also appointed Chevalier in the Légion d’Honneur. He spent nearly ten years in the United States, where he painted the rituals of the Indians and their costumes.
