Painter of figures, portraits, oriental scenes and landscapes; watercolourist, illustrator and creator of posters.

Charles Michel studied at the Academy of his birth-place. At the age of 17, he left for Paris where he studied under Constant and Gérôme at the School of Fine Arts. In 1894, he exhibited at the London Royal Academy, then returned to Belgium, did some pictures as illustrations and worked especially at decorative paintings. In 1905, he undertook all the drawings of his famous “Tournament of Chivalry” and in 1930 he made the plans for the chariots of the “Procession of Lights”. He was a member of ‘Pour l’Art’.

Michel specialized in oriental scenes.
