Painter of seascapes, landscapes, portraits, figures and genre scenes.

Jean-Henri Luyten was a pupil of Charles Verlat at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts. He was a co-founder of the circle ‘Als ick can’ in Antwerp. He was awarded a medal in Munich in 1888 and a silver medal in Paris in 1889.

Luyten’s output was of a very high quality. He participated in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and abroad.

His art is robust, almost brutal, with a dash of sensuality and an ease of execution.
