Hubertus Van Hove was a pupil of his father Bartholomeus Van Hove and of Hendrikus van de Sande Bakhuyzen. From 1854 on, he lived in Antwerp and often collaborated with Baron Henri Leys. He taught Maris, Bisschop, Johannes Hubertus Van Hove, Leon, Lintz, Scheeres, van Seben, Stroebel, Swijser and Witsen. He became a member of the Royal Academy of Amsterdam in 1845.
