Marie Besson was a friend of the comedian Sarah Bernhardt and painted many portraits on porcelain of the great actress.

She painted several portraits of the celebrities of her time. Her dexterity and technique made her specialise in painting on porcelain .

She won a first-class medal in 1888 in London and sent three portraits on porcelain to the Blanc et Noir Exhibition of 1892.
