Jean-Baptiste Antoine Emile Béranger was the elder son of Antoine Béranger. He worked with and learned from his father before enrolling in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris around 1830 and studying under Paul Delaroche.
Many of his genre paintings were bought in Amercia. He painted several female subjets.
