Painter of genre scenes, figure compositions, interiors and flowers, subjects of spectacle, such as the opera, the ballet and the circus, women, Parisian life and the world of dance and theatre; painter of gouaches and watercolourist. Post-Impressionist.

Jean Louis Marcel Cosson first exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member. Later on he participated at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon des Tuileries. He received an honourable mention in 1901 and a third-class medal in 1911. He often represented subjects of spectacle, such as the opera, the ballet and the circus. He especially painted women, Parisian life and the world of dance and theatre.

The Fine Arts Museum of Bordeaux acquired his “Le Cimetière”.
