Painter of genre scenes and portraits; pastellist and illustrator.

François Thevenot was a pupil of Alexandre Cabanel and Alexandre Lequien. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1880, receiving an honourable mention in 1883, a bronze medal in 1885 and a silver medal in 1891. He subsequently exhibited without participating in the competition. He was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1909.

Among his better-known illustrations are those for the “La couronne de lierre” (“Crown of Ivy”) and “La légende de l’aigle” (“Legend of the Eagle”) by Georges d’Esparbes, Léon Hennique’s “Minnie Brandon” and Emile Zola’s “Une page d’amour” (“Page of Love”).
