Painter of portraits and historical subjects.

Swerts was a student of Nicaise De Keyser and became a director of the Academy of Prague. He produced decorative paintings in collaboration with Guffens in the churches of Notre-Dame, Saint Nicolas (Waas) and Saint George in Antwerp, in the market hall of Ypres and in the city hall of Courtrai.

When he died, he had just completed the decoration of the Chapel of the Notre-Dame consecrated to the Virgin and St. Anne in the St. Vit Cathedral in Prague.
