Charles Boland was born in Spa. He was a pupil at the Antwerp Fine Arts Academy and one of the founder members of the young artist’s circle “Als Ik Kan” in Antwerp in 1883. He participated in the Triennial Exhibitions in Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels.

Boland was well-known for his very balanced compositions. His paintings of dogs and other animals are full of admiration for its subjects and meticulously executed with lots of thruthfulness.
