Painter of battles, portraits, genre scenes and seascapes; watercolourist and engraver.
Théophile Poilpot was the son of Théophile Poilpot Sr. and a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Gustave Boulanger at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He featured in the Paris Salon from 1874, then at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he won an honourable mention in 1883. He became Chevalier (1889) and subsequently Officier (1895) of the Légion d’Honneur. He collaborated with Edouard Détaille on the Panorama of Rezonville.
