Émile Ancelet was born on May 24, 1865 in Charleville and died in Santes on February 8, 1951. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français at the end of the 19th century.

Ancelet often painted in the countryside of Lille. He had a special interest in the play of light and shadow on flowering trees.
