Paul Sterpin was a pupil of the Academy of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode under the direction of Josse Impens. He worked with the painters of Tervueren and also got advice and support of Constantin Meunier. He was a realist painter of, among others, views of the Samber and Meuse region. He sporadicly also painted views of the Campine and Brabant.
Together with des Ombiaux Sterpin founded the Fédération des Artistes wallons. He painted all year long, but had a preference for misty and slightly melancholic early autumn mornings.
