Painter of genre scenes, (animated) landscapes and waterscapes; painter of pastels.

Paul Vogler was the son of a little-known painter. He was initially a house painter before turning to art as an entirely self-taught painter who had neither mentor nor formal artistic education.

He painted in a style that was both fluent and extremely sensitive and it was not long before he made a name for himself among the Impressionist painters of the day, who admired his landscape work.

He drew inspiration above all from Sisley, whose compositional technique and colour palette he adopted.
